The weather in Mallorca has been nothing but unusual this year. Almond blossoms were in bloom a good six weeks before their time. We had less than the normal amount of rainfall during February and March. May finally turned into the wettest May in Mallorcan history for perhaps 100 years, and even earlier this week, we experienced downpours and trompas not in keeping with the calendar or the country folks’ farm work pattern. And the amapolas (red poppies), finally, have now arrived a good month later than usual. Perhaps it was too wet for them?
Now, at last, we may have seen a change in the weather pattern. Temperatures yesterday at lunchtime were 27º C in the air and 21º C in the sea. Let’s hope it remains warm now, if not hot, and Summer temperatures will prevail from now on. Sit tight.
