Life and Death in Bunyola

Most people know the small town of Bunyola in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountain range for its proximity to the gardens of Alfàbia, the manor house of Raixa, or Son Amar, the country estate that does a Mallorcan imitation of a Las Vegas show.

Some others will know Bunyola for the Hospital Joan March, an establishment founded by that ominous Mallorcan character, Joan March Ordinas, him of the Banca March fame and sometimes refered to as The last pirate of the Mediterranean.

The hospital specializes in tricky cases that other Mallorcan hospitals do not want to bother with, such as patients with psychiatric problems, drug or alcohol related addictions, or those unfortunate souls with terminal illnesses. Quite a number of patients are known not to come back alive, once they are admitted into this Bunyolan hospital, shown above. Bless their souls.

The photo was taken near Bunyola, Mallorca, Spain. The date: March 2nd, 2008. The time was 16:52:54.
