Immerse Yourself at the Es Baluard Museum in Palma

aljub.jpg

September 20th is an important date on the art circuit calendar in Palma de Mallorca. Some 20 art galleries plus some eight or ten museums and art institutions will stage the 11th Nit de l’Art (Night of the Art) in Palma, all over town.

I won’t be going there. I went to Palma yesterday and saw some three of four art exhibitions. I prefer to take art, and a lot of art, in my own stride.

But I want to lure you to the Museu Es Baluard. Actually, I don’t. I hate that place. It is a non-museum. It is a white elephant investment of a private collector of some undefined art tastes, but with extremely good connections to public funding.

The museum has a little treasure trove though, the Aljub. The Aljub is a medieval, giant size water cistern that now acts as a cavern-like place for art installations. Go there. If you only want to see the Aljub, the admission fee is only 3 €. If you go, before September 30th that is, you can see a fabulous and very poetic installation of sound and light and images and glass objects by Mallorcan artist, Glòria Mas. I have not spent 3 € any better, recently. The work is called Aporia, it is big and dark, and it is not easy to photograph. But it is beautiful to look at and very sensual to walk around. Immerse yourself. Your soul will like it.

The photo was taken in Palma de Mallorca. The date: September 19th, 2007. The time then was 12:42:24.
