One of Palma de Mallorca’s landmarks has to be the Forn des Teatre pasteleria, diagonally across from Bodyshop, and just down from the Teatre Principal.
This pastry shop cum bakery cum tea place is laid out in a beautiful design dating from the Spanish Modernismo movement of the 1910s, akin to French-Belgian Art Deco or German-Austrian Jugendstil.
But even better – if that should be possible – are the freshly produced specialities of this Forn (Mallorcan for bread oven): ensaïmadas, empanadas, croissants, gatós, you name it.
The animal above the door makes reference to the animal in Palma de Mallorca’s coat of arms, the bat. If you look closely you can just make out the winged animal and its fierce long tongue.
