In a press conference two days ago, Felanitx batlesa Catalina Soler Torres announced her resignation from her post as the town’s mayoress. 

Her resignation from the office comes coupled with an abandonment of all political activities in this town ‘for personal reasons’ after five years at the helm of the Felanitx Consistory and four more in the opposition. The next Municipal elections would have been three years away.

Whilst Señora Soler was expected to be away from her office for a two month period of maternity leave any time soon, an unmitigated retirement from Municipal politics took everyone by surprise.

As far as I am concerned, I was not a friend of Catalina Soler’s politics. I think she will ultimately be remembered in Felanitx for some pompous activities, for a profusion of political favoritism bordering on the edge of legality and for her utter disregard of civil liberties.
