The Torre d’en Pau is a fortín (fortress) in Es Coll d’en Rabassa on Palma’s outskirts, dating from the late 19th century. The fortification is surrounded by a sizeable moat, currently without water; it used to belong to the Spanish Navy. Today the installation is an integral part of the Parc de la Torre d’en Pau.
The property is not administered by the Fuerzas Armadas any longer but is now owned by the Ajuntament de Palma. The erstwhile stronghold is normally open to the public but, due to its state of deterioration, the fortress buildings are currently closed for repair work and will be so until next year (2010). The surrounding park continues to be open, though. The park is one of the largest in Palma with an extension of some 42,000 m² (including the 20,000 m² or so of the fortified military buildings).
Springtime would be a perfect time for a visit.

Visited the Fort in September 2015 and found it now fully restored and available to visit in all areas so the Ajuntament de Palma seems to have done a good job. One area of major deficiency though is absolutely no history about this very impressive building on site. Only info displayed is about the children’s play park. This clearly needs to be rectified and tourists also need to be encouraged to visit.
