This year, Binissalem’s Festa des Vermar is scheduled for the period of September 12th to 27th. Last Saturday saw the Gran Batallia de Raïm (Battle of the Grapes) where the village youths threw 9,000 kilogramms of grapes at each other, whilst yesterday, the annual Concurs de Trepitjar Raïm (a grape treading competition) was held. But grapes and wine deserve more razzmatazz and thus, festivities in Binissalem have one more week to go. Today, Monday, there will be a mediaeval horse show (17h30), for instance, and tomorrow, Tuesday, there will be a wine tasting event (19h00) amongst other activities. Don’t bring your car if you want to taste more than a drop of the nectar. Luckily Binissalem is well connected by train from Palma, Inca and Manacor.
A complete schedule of events can be downloaded from the Diario de Mallorca festival website.

Klaus,
I enjoy reading your blog and photos. It gives a nice impression of aspects of Mallorcan life that are lacking from other guides. We’re coming to Mallorca on 24 September until 2 October and, apart from the tail end of Festa des Vermar I wondered if you have any “must sees/dos”?
Is it too early for mushroom hunting???
Best local rustic restaurant??
Kind regards,
