On the last day of the year I happened through Montuïri. Due to its location in the Pla de Mallorca, which is the island’s central hinterland, and because of its smallish population (approx. 2,500), Montuïri is uncrowded and unspoiled. Tourists rarely find their way here, unless they are cycling tourists. The Govern de les Illes Balears has recently created an extensive network of cycling paths throughout the Pla de Mallorca.
Apparently, Montuïri was given the rights of a Vila Reial in the year 1300, during the reign of the Kingdom of Mallorca. The Montuïrans are pretty proud of their history and, who wouldn’t be?
The photo was taken in Montuïri, Mallorca, Spain. The date: December 31st, 2007. The time was 15:12:02.
