The Plaça de Ses Columnes in Palma de Mallorca is a nice place to sit, relax and recover from a shopping trip to nearby Mercat Pere Garau, a very lively neighbourhood market. The plaça is really called Plaça de Francesc García i Orell, but everybody uses the common name.
The columns were placed there in the early Twenties, at the time of the Second Spanish Republic, before the Guerra Civil broke out. I was horrified when, some 4 or 5 years ago, the columns were demolished due to structural tiredness of the material. But one has to admit that a decent repair job has been undertaken by the Ajuntament de Palma and now, the plaça is as well accepted by the local vecinos as it ever was.

Beautiful pictures of Mallorca. Working to get more of my photos from Spain on my blog, http://www.bentpage.wordpress.com over the next week or two. Gracias!
