Heritage Neglected

The Poblat Talaiotic els Antigors near Ses Salines in the South East of Mallorca offers the remains of a Talaiotic settlement, dating back to perhaps 1,200 B. C. Given that we talk about something built by humans – one presumes – some 3,000 plus years ago, one has to be surprised that anything remains at all, what with all the wind and weather, an occasional earthquake and some such stuff.

Not many people seem to make their way to this Talaiot, and if and when they do, it is not easy to find the place. There are other Talaiotic sites in Mallorca with much better ease of access.

The archeological site of Els Antigors has an air of neglect and total abandonment about it. It certainly looks uncared for, which strikes me as absolutely ghastly and insane, considering its ancientness, a sense of history and all aspects of Mallorca’s (and Spain’s?) cultural heritage.

The photo was taken near Ses Salines, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: July 4th, 2008. The time was 13:55:29.
