Those of you who don’t want to go to the Fira de Ses Herbes in Selva tomorrow could go to Sant Elm instead. Tomorrow’s Volta a Sa Dragonera in a Kayak is an annual canoeing event now in its seventeenth year. Start of the non-competitive boat race will be at the beach of Sant Elm at 09h00.
You may have left it too late to register for participation. But you could still go and watch Mallorca’s biggest paddling event of the year. Hundreds of piraguas (canoes and kayaks) participated last year. A similar amount of boats are expected to turn up again, this year.
What may look like a leisurely stroll or an easy paddle can actually be quite a challenging endeavor. The changeover of the waves in the sheltered waters between Sant Elm and Sa Dragonera is quite dramatic as soon as the open sea is entered on the far side of the island of Sa Dragonera. Luckily the weather forecast is quite good for Sunday with temperatures of around 30° C and Easterly winds of up to 14 km/h during the morning hours.

My wife and I will be back in Mallorca next week, a trip we have made several times. Your blog is a pleasure and a good way to reconnect (and explore) my memories and the graces of the island. One of my personal pleasures is the fish market at (I think) Plaza Oliver, but I don’t think you have a reference for it yet. (This may just be a personal orientation; I also enjoyed the smaller but no less interesting one in Mao). In any event I will keep exploring your site and looking for kayak and biking resources when I get there.
Thanks again for your presence,
Will
