A country dwelling in Mallorca is called a finca rustica. A slightly grander country property is called a casa señorial. And the nicest and oldest country retreats, those with a bit of history attached to them, are called a posesión.
I guess that there exist no more than perhaps four or five dozen posesiónes in all of Mallorca. Most of them come with a few hectares of land and with their own church or chapel, like the one shown here.
This particular property was sold, perhaps fifteen years ago. Rumours have it that the new owner is a man from Catalunya. He has restarted the production of olive oil, and very successfully so.
By the way, today is a national holiday, in case you wondered why everything is shut. Spain celebrates the Día de la Constitución.
The photo was taken in the town of Felanitx, Mallorca, Spain. The date: December 4th, 2007. The time was 12:13:10.
