Off Season

When I first came to Mallorca, almost 30 years ago, Cala d’Or could perhaps accommodate some 5,000 tourists at any given time. Since then, beds on offer in this resort have increased to a figure nearer 30,000.

On a day like yesterday there were no more than 500 tourists holidaying in the whole of Cala d’Or, if that. There would have been plenty of space for your beach towel in Cala Gran (shown here). Very off season, I suppose.

Frank Sinatra is said to have bought a sea view villa near here in his time, but apparently, he did not come very often. The property is rumoured to still be in Ol’ Blue Eyes’s name.

The photo was taken in Cala d’Or, Mallorca, Spain. The date: February 3rd, 2008. The time was 13:18:23. Temperatures where around 17º Celcius in the sun at lunchtime.
