25th Anniversary

Last Saturday was a big day for Mallorca. The Parlament de les Illes Balears celebrated its 25th anniversary. Mallorca’s self-styled Queen María Antònia Munar Riutort threw a party on Saturday night at the Palau de l’Almudaina for her 600 best mates. Yours truly was not on the guest list, needless to say.

The main photo shows part of the Sala de les Cariàtides (the Plenary Room) inside the Parliament building. The detail depicts the Presidential dais where Señora Munar as the current President of the Balearic Parliament presides over plenary sessions that determine much of our fate, just as she has done over the last decade or two in her various earlier political capacities.

The smaller photo shows King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía’s saluting entry in the Parliament’s Golden Book, dating from March 1999 when el Rei y la Reina paid their first visit to the Balearic Parliament in Palma.

The photos were taken in Palma de Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: May 23rd, 2008. The time was 14:57:49 and 19:34:08, respectively.
