Dijous Bo

Every year on the third Thursday of November, Inca stages its Dijous Bo market, the year’s biggest market on the island. This year, for some reason, Dijous Bo falls on the second Thursday of this month, i. e. today.

Dijous Bo has a long tradition, going back to 1807, and even longer under a different name. Originally, it was Mallorca’s most important agricultural market, but things often change with time, don’t they? Dijous Bo still has quite a significance for agricultural matters and mostly, for the rearing of livestock – black pigs, horses, mules, pigeons, chicken, dogs, sheep, etc., but other topics have now claimed their admission, too, such as arts and crafts, cars and classic automobiles, food and cooking, plus a lot of other and more mundane products.

Today, for instance, an attempt will be made to produce the world’s biggest Ensaïmada ever. The attempt will be for a specimen with a diameter of 12 m. Some officials will take a certified measure at 11:30 h. If you get there on time, you will be rewarded with a free sample of this record breaking pastry.

More information, and the Dijous Bo programme can be found on a special Dijous Bo website.
