One thing about Mallorca is, that one can see it any which way one wants. This island has so many different facets. Sometimes I wonder if I portray this island correctly or adequately in my daily photo blog.
There are so many different Mallorcas. There is the one as seen from the outside, the touristy one. Then there is the one as seen from the inside. There is the island that is predictable, and there is a Mallorca that is constantly surprising. There are aspects that never make the headlines, and other dimensions that the occasional visitor might not much care about. There are probably a hundred different ways of portraying Mallorca in a variety of Mallorca photo blogs, and each and everyone would be justifiable in their approach.
I endeavour to show in my photo blog the wide range of facets that this island offers, from the superficial dimensions that every travel guide points out, to some of the lesser known facts that one might have heard about but one isn’t really sure, as well as the occasional oddity or eccentricity that no one else bothers to put up on the internet.
Today, I’ll focus on insects. I came across this little fellow on one of my excursions and I thought it would make an interesting photo. I’ve done quite a bit of researching but I cannot identify this small creature. I am sorry that I cannot give you any further information about this fat beetle but, I am not an entomologist.
But there you are. I do believe that this photo and the insect it shows are a good example of how one also could see Mallorca and how one might portray this island. The larger aspects of its whole can always be seen in its smaller parts, just the same. The details represent the entirety. The unidentified beetle represents one aspect of the rich phalanx of biodiversity that, luckily, can still be found in Mallorca. One only has to keep ones eyes open.
I think that that is the aim of my Mallorca Daily Photo Blog: to see Mallorca with my eyes wide open. Yes, I love this place.
The photo was taken in Escorca, Mallorca, Spain. The date: December 17th, 2008. The time was 12:40:23.
