Top Gear

Regular visitors to this blog will have noticed that sometimes I offer photographic evidence of Palma de Mallorca’s insignias bearing a bat. Here’s another fine example, found on the numberplate of one of the horse-drawn carriages that we find in Ciutat‘s old town.

On the subject of numberplates: the annual Mallorca Classic Rally (now in its fifth year) will be staged from March 18th to March 23rd. This year’s edition has been endorsed by the Real Federación Española de Automovilismo. Participating automobiles will have to be pre-1966. The rally will cover a total of 485 kms over four days as far as I can gather. Would-be participants can still register until February 10th.

You may have read in the Mallorcan newspapers that the folks from the British TV programme, Top Gear, have decided to participate. Presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are scheduled to compete in the V Rally Clásico Isla Mallorca. The very BBC is planning to film the rally and to then broadcast two 30 minutes programmes as part of their weekly Top Gear slot.

The photo was taken in Palma de Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: February 17th, 2009. The time was 13:15:00.
