The fishing fleet of Mallorca consists of 34 fishing boats and trawlers. Most of the fleet is based in Palma, but there are a handful of fishing boats also in Andratx, in Alcúdia, in Portocristo, in Portocolom and in Cala Figuera (Santanyí).
Due to La Crisis, during the winter months the pesca is currently cut back by one day a week, according to an agreement between the Govern de les Illes Balears and the Gobierno de España. Mallorca’s fishermen are now on duty only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. I understand that Brussels (and the European Union) are providing benefits to the fishermen concerned to make up the shortfall in income.
On their days off the fishermen find time to lay out and repair their nets.

The Consellería d’Agricultura i Pesca del Govern Balear issued a number of maritime and batimetric charts of the Balearic fishing zones. Even if you are a hobby fisherman you might find these charts helpful.
