The Ajuntament de Felanitx is housed in the Casa Consistorial, locally known as La Sala. It can be found next to the building of the Felanitx mercat. For years, the Felanitx mandarins have been complaining endlessly that the building is suffering from old age and insufficient installations. Well, help is now at hand.
For one, the building formerly housing the local Centre de Salut has become available due to the health services moving to a brand new health centre. The townhall was able to move all its employees and offices into this vacant facility, locally known as the old Estación Enológica, albeit temporarily. And also, the old Casa Consistorial is now undergoing an extensive refurbishment, as can be gathered from my photo. The sum of 115,000 € has been put aside, thanks to financial aid coming from the Consell de Mallorca. If you happen to pass by the building site you will notice that the works in progress are more radically profound than the sum earmarked would suggest but that’s alright. Already last year a similar amount was put aside, and perhaps in 2010 similar funds can be found. The politicians in Felanitx, and indeed in any Mallorcan pueblo, will make sure that funds out of someone else’s pockets are forthcoming. That’s the name of the game, here in Mallorca.
