Palma de Mallorca, believe it or not, has a bat in its coat of arms. Yes. Not many people know that. Have a closer look when next in Palma. You will find lots of little bats everywhere, most prominently, on top of the fountain opposite C & A, at the upper end of Palma’s Passeig Born.
There are historic reasons for this little creature finding its permanent place in Palma, going back to the Reconquista, in 1229/30. By the way, you’ll find a similar coat of arms, again with a bat, in the city of Valencia, on the mainland.
