La Seu

La Seu is the Mallorcan name for the splendid Gothic cathedral in Palma de Mallorca. Begun in 1230, the cathedral was not finished until 1601.

Most people look up to the cathedral’s towers, the fantastic baldachin above the high altar (created by Antoni Gaudí), the 44-metre tall octagonal pillars or the stained glass rose windows.

But, you can also find one or the other treasure on ground level, such as this beautiful pavement stone mosaic, outside, at the Western entrance, the Portal Major, again a Gaudian work.

Below ground level, you would find an earlier Moorish mosque which the cathedral was erected upon.

The photo was taken in Palma de Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: April 2nd, 2008. The time was 14:11:09.
