The Calm Before the Storm

We had a lot of stormy weather recently and a lot of rain, here in Mallorca.

When I took this photo last Sunday, there was an eerie calmness. From the feel and from the dramatic clouds one could fathom that this was the calm before the storm. And so it was. Within an hour or so, rain poured down in Port d’Alcúdia. A little later, Palma de Mallorca was inundated, as well. Manacor had rain and storm, too, later that afternoon, and thunder and lightning (and lots more rain) came down on us during the night and into Monday.

Some people say that this is the wettest May in Mallorca for at least sixty years. Well, at least all that rain should be good for the island’s water reserves.

The photo was taken in Port d’Alcúdia, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: May 18th, 2008. The time was 15:24:34.
