Palma de Mallorca stages the Trofeo Almirante Conde de Barcelona, an annual Vintage Boats regatta now in its 24th year. The trophy race is organized by the Real Fundación Hispania de Barcos and was first inspired by Don Juan de Borbón, the Conde de Barcelona, Spanish King Juan Carlos’ late father. Some 60 boats are expected to participate in this sailing event of classic beauties.

Regattas are held in the Bahía de Palma de Mallorca between August 13th and 16th. The participating vessels are classified according to their age: pre-1949 and post-1950. The prize giving ceremony is scheduled for August 17th, at 20h00, in the presence of King Juan Carlos I.

The Bruja, the boat shown in my photo, was built in Sweden in 1962, but sails under the German flag and is now skippered by one Wolfgang Schönnagel.
