Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year

Happy New Year 5769 to my Jewish visitors (hi, Mike).

The Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah – the name means “Head of the Year” – is observed for two days beginning on 1 Tishrei, the first day of the Jewish year. It is the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman.

I understand that the festival actually began at dusk yesterday, and will carry through until tomorrow, October 1st (2 Tishrei). Happy holidays.

I also understand that Honey cake is one of the many traditional foods eaten during the High Holidays. Yum.

  3. Hi Elana,

there used to be a First Seder Eve at the synagogue in c/ Monseynor Palmer 3 – I was there in 2002, 2005 and 2007. Now I should like to go for the First Seder Eve next Wednesday Eve – but I am lost since rabbi Shaul Friberg has left for Heidelberg in Germany. I have only the postal address of the synagogue. Can anyone help me as well as Elana – where and when??

I’ll arrive Tuesday Noon and need Matzos and info.
