Mallorca’s pottery fair is held this week in Marratxí for the 25th year. The XXV Fira del Fang is organised by the Ajuntament de Marratxí and is held at the Ses Tres Germanes venue. The pottery fair is open today and tomorrow, from 10h00 to 20h00. Admission is free.
The funny looking vessels shown here are Cargoleras designed to contain snails. If and when one collects snails, one may not want to eat them straight away. One could put the snails into these aired pots, put the heavy lid on and store the little creatures for a day or three. Stored that way the snails can not escape.
If you are into the habit of eating snails a la Mallorquina, you can do no better than pass by the Restaurant Es Cruce, on the way from Palma to Manacor, at the turn-off to Felanitx. You will be served freshly prepared Gargols of a decent size, with about 60 to 80 snails to one portion, together with pa pages and all i oli, all for a mere 3 €. Drinks are extra, obviously. Bon profit.
