A lot is going on in Mallorca when others are just getting out of bed on a Saturday morning. For instance, fashion photography. Mallorca has been a favourite location for commercial photographers for many years now on account of its favourable weather conditions, auspicious infrastructure, easy connectivity to European capitals and, in the main, its vivid light. Mallorca offers a wealth of locations, adequate professional services and sufficient technical back-up support, on a par with other destinations much further away from the client base and thus, much more expensive.
The vicinity of Palma’s Cathedral was used as background and setting for a commercial photo shoot last Saturday. Where else in Europe would one find this light and those sunny conditions in mid-November? In the Canaries perhaps, in Malta or Sicily, but the Canaries are less well-connected and much further away, and all the alternatives mentioned offer much less in professional back-up services and infrastructure. The team working here was British based with a couple of Californians thrown in for good measure. I did not bother to find out who the fashion client might have been as I was heading somewhere else. I suppose, some mail-order dude.
The photo was taken in Palma de Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: November 12th, 2011. The time was 08:08:27.
