The Adoration of the Magi

Today, Spain celebrates the Festividad de Los Reyes Magos. The Three Kings, Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar, arrived last night to pay reverence to the recently born baby Jesus, and to bring the long-awaited presents for Spain’s young ones. Carriages and cars with kings and kings’ helpers made an impressive entrance into Felanitx, having previously been to Portocolom, s’Horta and Cas Concos des Cavaller. The Adoración de los Reyes Magos (Adoration of the Magi), however, was only accomplished in Felanitx, at the steps of the Església de Sant Miquel (see photo).

Today, there will be church services at 12h00 noon in Felanitx and in most other pueblos of Mallorca, with the Reyes making another appearance, before they retreat back to the lands of the Orient from where they hailed.

In Palma, there will be an Adoració dels Tres Reis d’Orient of a special kind with a theatrical representation of the adoration, today at 12h00 at Ses Voltes, below the Cathedral, written by Llorenç Moyà and performed by Tabla Redonda Teatro. Admission is free.

The photo was taken in Felanitx, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: January 5th, 2012. The time was 20:05:15.
