The Ruta de Pedra en Sec in Mallorca’s Tramuntana mountain range is a wonderful route for aficionados of walking and hiking. The Consell de Mallorca maintain five refuges along that path, one at the end of each stage where the hiker can eat and/or stay overnight: Son Amer, Tossals Verds, Muleta, Can Boi and Pont Romà.
The refuge of Son Amer is a recently converted sanctuary up in the mountains, very near the monastery of Lluc, providing 52 beds in dormitories (one 24-bed room, one 8-bed room, two 6-bed rooms and two 4-bed rooms).
There is a dining hall plus other, multi-purpose rooms, toilets, showers, electricity, hot water, heating, telephone and wood burning fireplaces. Access is also provided for wheelchairs. Plus, there are outdoor facilities for leisure activities, including picnic and barbeque.
Bookings can be made over the Internet at the Senderisme website. Rates are currently 11 € per person/per night. Linen and towels are charged separately, as are meals or picnics. There is a 20 % discount for members of the International Mountaineering & Climbing Federation.
