The V Rally Clasico Isla Mallorca got on the road last night. Apparently there are 71 cars participating, some of them absolute beautes, such as a 1937 Bentley Derby Tourer, a 1952 Jaguar XK 120, a 1965 Lotus Elan and a 1981 Morgan +4, to name but a few. The Rally will continue today and tomorrow, to finish on Saturday on the race track in Llucmajor. The BBC is rumoured to be filming for a Top Gear programme.
Apparently, the fine piece of motor car shown here, a 1937 MG-TA, is not competing in the rally. I do know of a number of other vintage cars here on the island that are not participating either. I suppose the entry fees might be deemed too steep, and perhaps the whole exercise has too much of a commercial connotation about it.
The Club de Cotxes Classics is a classic car club in Mallorca a whole lot cheaper and a lot less commercial. Their website is this one. Membership there is 60 € p. a.
Of course there are those with a fine old automobile here on the island that do not belong to any automobile club other than the RACC. I do not own a 1954 Bristol 403 myself, but if I did I might just enjoy my treasure without the aid of club meetings or classic rallies. But there you are.
