Equilibrium

The weather has been a bit imbalanced of late, here in Mallorca. There was quite a drop in temperatures of some seven degrees Celsius. There was even a Yellow weather alert yesterday, but that has now moved on to our neighbouring island, Menorca. Here in Mallorca, all is clear again today and temperatures are set to be on the rise once again. The weather seems to now have moved back on track, just in time for today marking the official first day of Summer, at least here in the Northern Hemisphere.

Most pueblos on the island will celebrate Sant Joan this week, coinciding with the Summer solstice. Correfocs are planned in Palma (June 23rd) and Sa Pobla. The town of Sant Joan will hail the sun with the Festa del Sol que balla celebrations at the Santuari de la Mare de Déu de la Consolació in the early hours of next Thursday. These festivities are particularly enjoyed by the village youth as the timing coincides with the Fi de curs (end of school year). In Felanitx, June 24th will see the dance of Sant Joan Pelós (Saint John the Baptist).

The photo was taken near Cala Millor, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: June 7th, 2010. The time was 11:41:12.
