The Parc de la Mar between Palma’s Cathedral and the seafront was in the planning process for well over ten years, as of the late 60s. First, much controversy had to be overcome until, finally, in 1984 the park, its lake and its lovely gardens were inaugurated to much aplomb. Twenty-six years on, the park and its design are truly accepted by the citizens of Palma and likewise, visitors. The park with its rich assortment of trees, including many palm trees, makes for a lovely walk offering rewarding views across the Badia de Palma and up to La Seu (Cathedral) and the Palau de l’Almudaina. A plentitude of art sculptures are dotted around in the open air, including a strange assortment of arches by Catalan artist, Josep Guinovart, some heads and helmets by Ben Jakober, as well as these boat hulls by Cuban artist Kcho (shown here).
