The Festa i Fira del Meló is in full swing in Vilafranca de Bonany, right in the centre of Mallorca. The village youth will celebrate a fierce but friendly battle of the melons this afternoon at 16h00, whilst tomorrow the pueblo will see the crowning if this year’s melon growing champion.

Vilafranca’s farmers will try to beat the Guinness Book of Records mark for watermelons, currently standing at 25 kilogrammes but even though the melons in Vilafranca are the biggest and heaviest on the island, the heaviest melon in previous years weighed in at just over 21 kg, here.
