Rural Beneïdes

You may have attended the animal blessings in Palma last Thursday or in your pueblo last Sunday or Monday, or you may have not attended any Beneïdes whatsoever. Well, it’s not too late if you want to take your goldfish, your dog or your horse, if you should be so inclined. Tomorrow, January 23rd, there will be a missa (church service) at 10h00 at the Església de So’n Valls, near Felanitx, to be followed at 10h00 by Les Beneïdes, rural style. It should be fun. The occasion may well turn into a rare opportunity to see what life looked like in Mallorca in the old days. Not to be missed.

Felanitx itself will hold Beneïdes later that same day as well, at 15h00, a somewhat bigger event but equally colourful and folkloric. A splendid occasion to take that extra special photo that you wanted to take all along of Mallorca away from the beaches and the tourists. The Sant Antoni foguerons will be held in Felanitx tonight at 20h30, complete with torradas, xeremiers as well as batucada drumming.

The photo was taken near Felanitx, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: January 19th, 2011. The time was 15:42:39.
