Occasionally, when reading the local newspapers here in Mallorca, one can stumble across an advert offering the services of a healer or psychic person with powers of clairvoyance, often of an apparent African descent. The services offered include help with emotional problems, help with relationship matters such as break-ups, separations and divorces. Lovers will supposedly be reunited. It is stated that bad vibes can be cleared and the Evil Eye is promised to be averted. Sexual powers can also be enhanced. The prowess of pure Black Magic are on offer to be purchased.

Sometimes, the adverts can also be found on small paper leaflets which are handed out in public streets, put on a car windscreen or even, through the letterbox. I had one stuffed through my persianas (shutters) not that long ago.

A few days ago, one of the leading Mallorcan newspapers did an undercover investigation into one of the advertiser’s setups where the photo (above) was apparently taken with a hidden camera. The fee for a consultation rendered was in the region of 30 €. A more effective healing ritual was offered, involving voodoo and the root of a rare African tree, for an additional fee of 350 €. The newspaper reporters considered the whole episode a scam and have reported the advertised activities to the local police.

Hmm. You better watch out.
