Is it the end of an era or is it the birth of a new beginning? After 38 years, Palma’s persona grata Toni Llabres has finally thrown in the towel and closed an institution, El Bazar del Libro, just off Palma’s Plaça Santa Eulàlia. The Bazar del Libro was a collector’s treasure trove, an antiquarian shop of books, posters, photographs, maps, magazines and newspapers. The shop is closed now but, building work is going on. The neighbours keenly gossip that the bookshop was sold lock, stock and barrel to some young, like-minded Mallorcans who want to open a similar venture sometime after the Summer, maintaining the original idea of the dedicated bookseller, with some added-on, complementary offers. We’ll see. Just for now, let’s mourn the loss of one of Palma’s legendary trading posts.

I discovered it almost thirty years ago now, and I found so many useful references for my work there… Sad to hear the place is closed.
All the best to Toni Llabres always, and thanks to him for dedicating all those years to make our lives richer. Let’s hope it reopens again soon, and great to hear new generations are willing to dedicate time and energy to this type of ventures.

I just found your comment about El Bazar del Libro and I am very happy to inform this Sunday (between 17.00 and 20.00 hours) is the reopening and we invite both of you to come.
Toni Llabres will be there and will be in the library during the next 2 months introducing us the clients he had during his last 38 years.
