Palma is slowly developing into a mature metropolis. I am happy to report that a new Youth Hostel is now available, a service that so far has eluded the young world traveller on a budget, here in Mallorca. The new venue is called Central Palma, and indeed, the location is very centrally positioned. I am rather a bit on the wrong side of what one would consider Youth but, there you are. Come to think of it, I don’t actually think that there is any age restriction for bookings at Central Palma, on either side of the age range.
Central Palma is located in the heart of Palma, in Plaça Quadrado, just behind the Basilica and Convent of Sant Francesc. The premise used to be the old Convento de las Hermanas Franciscanas de la Misericòrdia. At some stage, the Convent was also used by the nuns as a school for both, nens and nenas (boys and girls).
Accommodation is available 365 days a year in bunk-bedded rooms, each sleeping 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10. Rooms can be booked for mixed gender or same-sex in case you travel on your own and would like to be feel safe. Facilities on offer include a cafeteria/bar, TV, Internet, WiFi, games, laundry, showers, a hall for meetings and events, complete with a grand piano, left luggage lockers, bicycle rental and so forth. The venue and some of the rooms are also accommodated for wheelchair access.
Rates are 27 € per night per person, including breakfast and sheets.
