Happy Russian Orthodox Christmas

Thirteen days after the Western Christmas, the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates its Christmas today, January 7th, in accordance with the old Julian calendar. It’s a day of both, solemn ritual and joyous celebration, and is celebrated in Palma as well.

The Russian Orthodox Church in Mallorca is at home in the Church of Santa Caterina de Sena, in Porta Pintada near Palma’s Plaça España. Christmas mass will be celebrated tonight at 19h00, I believe. You can attend without any further stipulation, being Orthodox or other. You don’t even have to be Christian. It should be a moving experience.

The photo was taken in Palma de Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: August 15th, 2009. The time was 20:15:36.
