Quite by chance, I met an out-of-work plumber the other day, in Manacor, who let me in on his grim plight. There’s no need to go into details. La Crisis, what else. A large proportion of employment in Mallorca until very recently used to be provided by the building and construction industry, and as you undoubtedly know, not much building is going on right now on the island or anywhere else in Spain, for that matter.
Totally unrelated to this chap in Manacor, I came across this plumber’s business in Palma de Mallorca, a week or so ago. This particular enterprise seems to still be a going concern but, by the looks of it, it may have seen its heyday. Only yesterday, this very Fontaneria was mentioned in one of the local newspapers as being in the process of a wind-down due to age related reasons. The telephone number on this shop sign gives it away; the 971 area code is not mentioned. Surely, this sign was painted many moons ago and would need a bit more than just a lick of fresh paint to stem the decay.
The photo was taken in Palma de Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: April 8th, 2010. The time was 15:57:33.
Plumbing is the system that supplies, distributes, uses, and removes water from a building. Among the components used in the system are pipes, fittings, sinks, basins, faucets, valves, drains, toilets, and tubs.
I’ve been weaving thoughts whilst looking at your site. It stretches my laid-back and sheer memoirs of life into the present time – from where I grew up, in Minnesota – to where I am sitting now. As I sit, I fell in love with your writing and photographs, it is all simple yet lush. You somehow redefined home and the meaning that catapults within it. Like how you described the house, of how it is in need of plumberesque finished, or a carpentry day, – it is a reflection of simplicity – or in the simplest way how we describe the word. And amongst the thoughts, I really need a mind plumbing flashbacks are waiting – like the old day of how I rename and define things. Whatever written played on my head – like a short novel I couldn’t close without smiling.
You may say that I am over-reacting, but I love your photos and writings.
A plumbers plight if you will. I was recently in Sydney, where they are having somewhat of a housing boom and had some plumbing problems myself. I called a local plumber from Pipe Perfection and they, luckily enough, helped me out. I think a plumbers worst nightmare is a housing crisis like the one you explained in Mallorca. Great writing my friend keep it up!

It’s important to make sure plumbing system is working properly during the warmer months of the year. Issues due to age and weather conditions can result in serious plumbing problems.
