The beginning of May is usually the start of the holiday season for Mallorca. A smaller number of hotels already opened for business at Easter but the majority of hotels open their doors from May to October. Not very many hotels are open all year round.
This year, the tourist industry on the island is in a bit of a state of trepidation, not really knowing what to expect. Will the market finally pick up again, or will La Crisis continue and make things even worse? The cloud of volcanic ash and the resulting cancellation of countless flights during the middle of April did not help to instill confidence into the business. The month of May will need to be a good one to boost confidence.
The photo of the coach drivers was taken in the arrivals hall at PMI airport last week. There were plenty of coaches waiting outside, obviously expecting plenty of visitors and clients. That may have been a good sign. Car rental firms seem to be upbeat as well. Let’s all be cautiously optimistic, shall we?
