The Writing on the Wall

In this instance, the writing on the wall is more someone making his or her mark on a shop window, or to be precise, on a deserted shop premise window in Palma. I liked what I saw yesterday and I wanted to share my find with you.

Several conclusions can be made from this graffiti, I think. First, there is an artist in each and everyone of us, once we are given an outlet. Second, you will find that now there are more retail premises abandoned in Palma than at any time that I can remember, and that includes bars, corner shops, kiosks and offices. La crisis, once again. And third, as always, the beauty of things lies in the eye of the beholder. The appeal of this island and its makeup are not only characterised by its sights or its monuments but, also by its subculture and its underbelly.

The photo was taken in Palma de Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: October 14th, 2010. The time was 13:20:59.
