One of these American Classic Cars came to Felanitx the other day and caused quite a bit of attraction. Only 3,640 units of this Chevrolet Corvette convertible sportscar were built in 1954 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. This car had an American number plate. I do not have any information as to who the owner might be; I saw the man but, did not bother to ask. When it was first sold the car retailed for 2,774 USD; today, one would have to part with a generous multiple of that sum if one wanted to buy one of the original cars in top condition such as the one pictured here. This first generation Corvette came with a 3.8 l R6-engine; the 4.38 l V8-engine only came into production a year later, just in case you wondered.
The photo was taken in Felanitx, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: July 6th, 2011. The time was 18:22:33.
What a beauty! Have seen a few classics whilst visiting Mallorca over the years but not this one, although I don’t think any of the ‘vettes were built at Detroit – I think early ones at Flint (Michigan), then St. Louis (Missouri) and lately, Kentucky. Possibly the best I have seen to date, thanks for taking the photo and great blog!
