Weather Lore

Yesterday’s weather pattern must have been the best and sunniest one for many a year on a New Year’s Day. It was just blissful. We had blue skies, a magnificent Half Moon high up at around midday, not a cloud to be seen anywhere, and some hot-feeling 16 or 17° C. What better time for a walk, to work off some of the excess weight gain acquired over the last fortnight.

We passed through some beautifully well-kept landscape of fields with young green shoots of crop sown at the December Full Moon. Now, the almond trees are beginning to blossom. Nature seems to be preparing for Springtime. Mind you, Winter has barely arrived. There may be some cold nights ahead of us during January and February. Snow is actually forecast above 1400 m from tomorrow night.

Now is the time for the planting or pruning of fruit trees, such as apricot, almond, apple, prune. Orange trees, lemon trees, carob trees and pear trees can all be planted now. Roses should be cut back in January after the First Quarter Moon. There is plenty to do or to prepare in the garden as well. Time to get active.

The photo was taken in Felanitx, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: January 2nd, 2012. The time was 14:24:41.
