I am not one for going to the beach a lot during the Summer. It is just too crowded for me when everybody else is there and his or her grandmother. If I felt like a swim during the hot season, I would go to the beach early in the morning, say, at 08h30, and return home again or to work at 10h30 when the hoi polloi arrive. Instead, I go to the beaches for walks a lot during the off-season when I enjoy the natural setting, the wind and the elements, on my own or in the company of my wife or good friends.
Yesterday, I went to Caló des Macs near Cala Llombards, close to Santanyí in the east of the island. Santanyí is privileged to have a good number of excellent beaches and bays, such as Cala Mondragó, S’Amarador, Cala Santanyí, Cala Llombards, Cala S’Almunia or Caló des Màrmols. Now, these bays and beaches are deserted. No-one would dream of swimming and only a solitary blogger or a lone female with a pair of large dogs are out enjoying the seclusion and the unquestionable beauty of this island in Winter.
The photo was taken in Cala Llombards, Santanyí, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: February 8th, 2012. The time was 17:40:34.
I agree with you – this is the time to go to the beach, not when it’s crowded. I’m wonder, are there any seashells on any of the beaches? Are there any beaches that are especially good for shelling?
Signe
signe, there are lots of tiny teeny shells to be found on mallorcan beaches. they are not always there and not all the time. it seems to depend on wind and weather. try es trenc for a start, or sa rapita.

Thank you, Klaus. You ARE an expert on many things Mallorcan, even if you modestly say you are not!
Absolutely love this daily blog. I’ve shared the info with so many friends both here in Mallorca and back in UK and Scandi countries – everyone says the same thing – it’s fantastic to receive this little email every day. You really are a mine of interesting information which is great for those of us who are passionate about Mallorca. Keep up the good work. We love it and appreciate all your hard work. Best wishes
