The Possessió of Son Serra

The Possessió of Son Serra near Can Picafort is one of the finest old country houses in Mallorca. In the old days, the estate had its own school building, a small church dating from the 19th century with an impressive tower and a main house with close to 800 square metres plus outbuildings and stables with another 1,000 square metres. If I remember correctly, the land extended to some 900,000 square metres of agricultural land and wooded area, going all the way down to the coast line of Son Serra de Marina. About 15 years ago, the estate was on the market for some 200,000,000 Pesetas. I bought some lottery tickets at the time hoping for a large enough win to be able to purchase this marvelous estate. No prize for guesses that my dreams did not come through, then. Rumours had it that the property was sold a bit later but I can not vouch for that. Whenever I am in the area, I pass by and catch another sight, with my heart beat increasing ever so slightly. Searching the Internet for more information on the history of the place, I could find nothing other than the undated offer of an estate agent praising the virtues of the manor house and putting a price tag of 9,000,000 € on it.

As it happens, the Spanish Lotería Nacional is holding a special draw tomorrow, March 3rd, with a first prize of 15,000,000 €, the Sorteo Extraordinario del Bicentenario de Lotería Nacional. My fantasies are still vivid, and I shall buy a Decimo for 15 €. You may call me a dreamer. Pigs can fly.

The photo was taken near Can Picafort, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: February 22nd, 2012. The time was 13:44:05.
