The Calla Lily (Zantedeschia)

The Calla Lily (Zantedeschia) is probably one of the most beautiful flowers on Earth. The flower exists in various colour variations and a number of species. Here in Mallorca, the white Zantedeschia aethiopica is most common. You will be hard pushed to find a traditional country house on this island where this lily is not grown with appreciation and esteem, without the need for a formal garden design. The flower is a very strong and sturdy plant, growing a horizontal rhizome stem to multiply and being able to grow in many soils and habitats.

The Calla is really native to southern Africa. In South Africa, the leaves of the Zantedeschia are used to treat sores. Many plants in the Zantedeschia family are poisonous in their raw state, due to the presence of calcium oxylate crystals. Even though, rumour has it that the leaves, crushed and applied to the brow or the temple were at one time used as a headache cure, again in South Africa.

The photo was taken near Santanyí, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: May 8th, 2010. The time was 20:31:27.

  3. For an elegant wedding center pieces, calla lilies are the very best choice to utilize. I wanted another pond plant, and I know those do well in water,
so he came home when camping too. Which is the reason that I have gathered together a list in the common plants which can be allergic to closest companions.
Soil mulch which contains Cocoa bean shells ought to be avoided, using bark, shredded pine or cedar instead.
Most of the lilies possess a pleasant fragrance and appear in a variety of colors.
