Cosmas and Damian

In the parish church of Petra in Mallorca, the Església Parroquial de Sant Pere, one can find a serene lateral chapel dedicated to Cosmas and Damian, the twin saints and martyrs. A magnificent Mediaeval painting depicts the two physicians and practitioners who were said to have cured numerous people of ill-health without ever accepting payment for their services. The saints Cosmas and Damian are regarded as the patrons of physicians and surgeons and are often represented with medical emblems.

The parish church can be visited daily (except Sundays) between 10h30 and 12h30.

The photo was taken in Petra, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: April 7th, 2011. The time was 12:09:06.
