Good-Bye to All That

Sa Feixena

It’s time to say good-bye.

After 1,928 daily blog entries between June 10th, 2007, and September 18th, 2012, a serious heart condition caught me unawares whilst on a short trip abroad. I underwent a heart operation and had a quadruple bypass. My unplanned hospital stay rendered me unable to keep the Mallorca Daily Photo Blog running without interruptions. When I got back to Mallorca six weeks later I somehow had lost my sense of purpose, my sense of direction and – without wanting to sound too dramatic – a focus in my life, my attitude, my aspirations, the centre of my self. My organs had been healed and restored but my mental self was all over the place.

It became clear that I did not want to continue as before. I simply could not go on as if nothing had happened. I had to reevaluate myself, my situation and my sense of purpose, including my various blog adventures and, of course, my work load, my stress level and my sense of duty. Things had to slow down; I had to slow down.

I decided, albeit grudgingly, that my main blog, the daily Mallorca adventure and its endless photo sessions resulting in thousands of images had to undergo severe changes if not, had to cease altogether. And that is what it finally boils down to. I have decided to let go of this MDPB blog. I will be embarking on a new Mallorca blog which will not be a daily one (Mallorca Observed) in the near future and I shall let you know as soon as I possibly can where you will be able to find it.

In the meantime let me say a million thanks to you, my valued readers and my loyal subscribers. I appreciated your company, your comments and your numerous recent well-wishes. I shall miss you all. I hope you will join me in my new blog adventure. I would certainly value your continued affiliation.

Let me wish you a Happy New Year. Molts d’anys. See you soon.

The photo was taken in Palma, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: December 4th, 2012. The time was 14:58:35.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about your health problems and surgery! I have so enjoyed your blog and have learned so much. It’s definitely put Mallorca on my short list of places to visit (having been to Ibiza a few times.) Thank you for all your hard work, have a great 2013 — and I look forward to what you come up with next.

  3. Cannot wait for Mallorca Observed.. Understand your decision completely.
I wish you everything you wish yourself for 2013. Thank you so much for all
the information and pleasure you have given me in the past.

  5. You have inspired many people to look at things in different ways, and provided wonderful information on so many subjects, for which we thank you. Take care of yourself first and foremost, and we look forward to any further contributions from you in any way.

Very best wishes for the future.

  6. The MDPB is dead…long live the Mallorca Observed….just an occasional photo will do.
The IMPORTANT thing is your health and happiness……let 2013 be Cure Year for you.
    Best wishes…..Jim

  7. Wow Klaus….so sad to see your daily posting won’t be coming back. It was one of the first emails I read every morning. So very happy to hear that the body has mended and that your health is doing better. I know in time your sense of self, purpose and direction will come back. It is common after a major medical crisis such as yours. I look forward to your new blog when it comes to be. I shall watch for it!
It was such a pleasure to meet you this spring when we were on the island. Sadly, it does not look like I will be back in 2013 – perhaps in 2014! Hope we can catch up again some time!

Happy holidays and looking forward to hearing from you again in Mallorca Observed!

    Molts d’anys.

    Anita and Peter.

  8. Glad you survived the surgery and wish you continued good health to enjoy life in Mallorca. We will be out there in January to add to our own collection of photos of the natural beauty of the island but look forward to seeing what you are going to cme up with to please us.
All the best for 2013 and the future.

  9. Thanks so much for the “joyride”. I wish you all the best and all the luck for the new year. We will be here waiting for your new plans!

  10. Thank you for the hard work and all the best for 2013! Please keep the blog accessible as it will still remain my first reference to share with people planning to visit Mallorca.

    Best regards,
    Gabor

  11. Lieber Klaus, nun isser hin, der mallorcaphotoblog. Schade. Lass uns an deinem observierten Mallorca teilhaben. Wir warten – geduldig.
Ein gutes Neues Jahr, glückliches 2013. Molts d’anys.
    Alles Liebe, Bernat

  12. I will miss your daily dose of Mallorca, but first things first: your health and yourself goes before any of us readers. I truly hope you heal completely and find the strength and interest in getting into another blog-adventure. As today marks a special moment, I/we wish you a very happy (and healthy) new year and we look forward to hear about your back to blogging whenever you fell you up to it. Best wishes for a new 2013!!! Lula

  13. Dear Klaus, thank you for so many years of mallorcaphotoblog. It was a great project, loved it. I am sorry about your health problems and wish you full recovery, mentally and bodily.
    Auf zu neuen Ufern.

    Your friend David

  16. Lovely to hear from you again after such an absence. I look forward to the occasional update in 2013. It was only yesterday that my husband and I were reminiscing about the lucky wearing of red underwear for the end of the year, that I’m sure we read about from an earlier blog of yours…Happy New Year.

  17. Along with many others I want to express deep appreciation for the all-but 2000 blogs. Informative and inspiring. Hope the new blog brings you as much pleasure as this one has to so many. I had a friend who had the same scenario health-wise and expressed the same response. Normal but disturbing… hope the door of challenge eventually marks a positive transition.

  18. Wish you well my friend. I will enjoy whatever you write. God bless you and thank you for every written word. You are so appreciated. Lots of love and warm wishes for 2013 xxxxx

  19. I thank you for all your 2011/12 blogs. We made our full time move over to Mallorca at the start of 2011 and it was good to have all that information every morning…. over coffee of course!! Your health and well being is the most important thing for you and your loved ones and I was glad you just let us know of the situation regarding the blog. I and was always amazed at the promptness and amount of effort you must have put in to create it, if you must continue in a different vein then do so with all our blessings, but not at a cost to your own health.
My best wishes to you in 2013.

  20. Goodbye and thanks to the old…..Hello and welcome to the new….
Best wishes and a happy and healthy New Year. Thanks
    Gordon and Dorothy

In the meantime, we have your back catalogue to enjoy over again. Our very best wishes for the future to you and your family and a happy and healthy 2013.

  28. Many, many thanks for the commitment you gave to such a wonderful blog. As a frequent tourist visitor to Mallorca, you gave an excellent insight into the real life of the island that made our visits all the more enjoyable and also added to the memories we had. Wishing you good health and much happiness in the future.

  29. Lovely to hear from you and a very happy new year. Thank you for your daily blog – an extraordinary achievement! You can be very proud. Continue to get better and I’m looking forward to your new journal.

  30. We were very sorry to hear about your illness. We value your Mallorca daily blog and as regular visitors to the island from Ireland – twice a year – we checked in regularly. We look forward to your new blog and wish you a new sense of purpose and well being.
    Ros and Aidan.

  31. Dear Klaus
Lovely to hear from you again, even though it is bad news for all of us devotees to mpb. Look after yourself, enjoy your more relaxed future. We look forward to hearing from you again sometime when you have the will and energy. Take your time.
With very best wishes to you and your family for 2013 and on ……….
Sylvia ((lucky enough to currently be here in beautiful Mallorca)

  32. Hi!
Real happy to hear that you are doing good, not so much about discontinuing Mallorca Photo Blog… it is a reference and will be a real loss.
With the bad comes the good so I’m really looking forward to your new blog.
    Saludos!

  33. Danke, Klaus, das fasst alles zusammen! Ich würde mich freuen über eine Begegnung auf der Insel.
    Take care,
    Brigitta

  34. Best wishes from Perth Western Australia, I will miss my daily fix of Mallorca, but will wait for your next venture.

    Stefanie

  35. Its great to see this entry and that you are recovering and taking on another venture as you explore your new life and blog.
I have so much enjoyed this retiring blog – it has great reference material for our future “maybe” move to Mallorca (we are coming to investigate this Spring armed with great articles from you!) I want to say how much I have admired and appreciate your efforts.
I wish for you: No push, or rush but a more leisurely pace for the new blog to be enjoyed by all and, especially, you.
    Nikky from Oregon

  36. Great idea to do something less demanding. We often wondered how on earth you managed the daily post.

Will await ‘Mallorca Observed’ with great interest. Thanks to you, I found a copy of the Robert Graves book of the same title in an online bookshop in Hay on Wye. A real treasure, still waiting to be enjoyed – maybe I should take a leaf out of your book!

With every good wish – Judy Hodgkins

  37. Hey there, I’m a new blogger coming from Mannheim Rheinau, Germany, who found you on https://mallorcaphotoblog.com/. Do you have any helpful hints for up-and-coming writers? I’m hope to start my own site very soon but I’m a bit lost on everything. Do you believe I should start off with a free site like Micro Blogs or shell out some cash into a pay site? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely overloaded.
    .. Any tips?
