The Santuari del Puig de Maria just outside of Pollença, also known by the name of Santuari de la Mare de Déu del Puig, started out as a small oratorio in 1348. An adjoining monastery was built in 1362 and a fortification was constructed at the end of the 15th century, including a massive defense tower to protect against pirates and Saracens. In 1576, the nuns were instructed to move to Palma de Mallorca and the monastery was abandoned.
Today, the Puig is a popular place for outings and excursions, affording splendid panoramic views over Pollença and the Northeast coast of Mallorca. The sanctuary now offers accommodation as a refuge with modest comforts in the erstwhile nuns’ cells at inexpensive cost (22 € per night for a two bed accommodation plus 7 € each for a third or fourth person). There is no heating. Bathrooms are communal and only one shower comes with hot water. There is a kitchen and an outside barbecue facility. There is also one of the most impressive dining rooms in all of Mallorca (see photo below). A bar service offers beverages, bocadillos and some hot food. Telephone 971.184.132 for reservations (09h00 to 15h00 and 17h00 to 20h00).

The photo is beautiful and pretty.
Is old and i like it.
If you have never visited, it is a definate must. My family and I (me, my hubbie, 2 kids and my parents) visit the old town of Pollensa every year in the autumn, and this is one of the places we visit EVERY year, you will never get bored of the view. It can be a tough walk to the top, so take a bottle of water if it is warm, but there are plenty of places to stop, rest and enjoy the view. By the way, the other place we visit every year (my parents sometimes twice a year) is the dog/cat sanctuary nearby, be sure to check the opening times, but be sure to take lots of dog treats, and hankies, there are lots of beautiful beasts you will want to take home, a donation is always very appreciated by the humble owners.
