Festes de Sant Pere

Port d’Alcúdia is celebrating its Festes de Sant Pere (the Patron Saint of fishermen) with a gathering of the giants and also, a correfoc. Whilst the main day of festivities will be next Tuesday, June 29th, celebrations are already in full swing and will include a sand castle competition as well as a Sardinada this weekend, and tomorrow (Monday) a Fidevada. Tuesday, the traditional procession with the statue of San Pedro (Sant Pere) will commence after the church service at 19h00 and will continue with a convoy of fishing boats traversing the port of Alcúdia (see photo below).

Here’s a link for the programme of activities. The Festes de Sant Pere will be followed next week by the Festes de La Mare de Déu de La Victòria (July 1st and 2nd), also in Alcúdia.

The photo (top) was chosen from my archive. It was taken in Port d’Alcúdia, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: April 5th, 2009. The time was 15:55:21. The photo (bottom) was borrowed from the Internet, courtesy of ajuntamentalcudia.net/festes and picasaweb.

Muchas gracias.
