People are different. Cultures are distinct. Customs vary from place to place and differing habits develop.
Take a Sunday afternoon at the beach, for example, in Mallorca in August. You’ll find that us Northern Europeans might go to the beach for a swim and a topping up of our sun tan. Not so the typical Mallorcan guy. He or she would be at home having a nice Sunday lunch with their extended family at the time this photo was taken. After that, they might take the boat out to unwind and relax. In fact, they might have been out with the little dinghy or Llaüt in the early hours of the morning before the sun was too hot and before the fish became too aware of the anglers’ intentions. There never was a tradition in Mallorca until quite recently to go to the beach. The idea of sun tanning was quite alien to a Mallorcan person, say, thirty years ago. But taking the boat out to go fishing, or taking the gun or the dogs to go out for a hunt, that was more likely to be a Sunday leisure activity, the art of unwinding. Just as well that yesterday the season for Caza Menor started in Mallorca. From now until October 11th, you can go and hunt rabbits, quails, partridges and other small kill, provided you have a hunting permit and a Licencia de armas.
The photo was taken in Colònia de Sant Jordi, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: August 14th, 2010. The time was 14:42:04.
